The Grammy's have been hyped for quite a few weeks with the announcement that the likes of Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Eminem set to perform. Then with the recently released Lady Gaga single, "Born This Way", having premiered two days before the show aired, the show had propelled to a must-watch television spectacle. As the red carpet commenced it was seen that this year was going to be a pretty great year for the Grammy's. Seeing stars like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus parading down the carpet with their awe-struck faces shows the illustrious affects that the show has, even on the stars attending. Yet again, Lady Gaga, outdid herself appearing on the show inside of an egg which was couriered by a latex strewn team of men and a supermodel.
The show began with a tribute to the legendary Aretha Franklin, by great artists such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, and Best New Artist nominee Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine). It was a great tribute where the newcomer was the shining star as she belted "Think (Freedom)", one of Franklin's classic hits. The show continued with the unveiling of Lady Gaga from her shell to perform "Born This Way" and performances by Miranda Lambert, Muse, and a Mash-up of new artists B.O.B., Bruno Mars, and Janelle Monae. The highly anticipated team-up of Usher and protege/tween sensation Justin Bieber, which seemed to be very much about aesthetics and less about the actual performances. The little collaboration in the performance that took place was a back and forth singing of the end of Usher's hit "OMG". Other notable performances of the evening included Cee Lo Green's performance of his hit single "F*** You", changed to "Forget You" for radio and television performances, with the recently musical Gwyneth Paltrow. Also, Katy Perry gave a undoubtedly touching version of "Not Like The Movies" and ended it with her recent single "Teenage Dream" from her sophomore album of the same name, a contender for Album of the Year. Rihanna performed twice near the end of the show, once with Eminem for their nominated song "Love The Way You Lie", and then again with Drake for her Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper "What's My Name?". After Lady Antebellum took home awards for Record and Song of the year for "Need You Now" the most awaited for award was given to the final performers, Arcade Fire, a shock for most since all other nominees have had a much more public and prosperous year. But, of all of the shocks of the evening, everyone is still questioning "Why did Lady Gaga thank Whitney Houston?" when she received the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Other winners of the night included La Roux, Michael Buble, The Black Keys, Muse, Usher, The Roots, and Eminem.
